2004 Alabama Rural Health Association's Awards Ceremony

The third recognition through the presentation of service awards by the Alabama Rural Health Association occurred at a ceremony held for this purpose in the State Capitol Auditorium in Montgomery on November 5, 2004.
Sister Roseanne Cook, M.D. of Pine Apple was presented with the Rural Health Provider Exceptional Achievement Award and Joyce Brenley of Cullman was presented with the Rural Volunteer Excellence in Service Award. A third award, the Billie Gilliland Exceptional Contribution To Rural Accident Prevention Award was presented for the first time. Alabama's State Troopers received this prestigious award with Trooper Chuck Gilliland, Billie Gilliland's husband, accepting the award on behalf of Alabama's state troopers.
Alabama's State Treasurer, Kay Ivey, presented the awards. Twinkle Andress, Deputy Chief of Staff with the Alabama Governor's Office, read a proclamation from the Governor proclaiming the week of November 1-6 as "Rural Health Week" in Alabama. Susan Malone, Clinical Coordinator with the Office of Emerging Health Technologies at the University of South Alabama spoke on the impact of emerging medical technologies on rural health care in Alabama. The ceremony was covered by Montgomery television station WAKA and was well attended.
