Area Health Education Centers recruit and retain healthcare professionals into rural areas. They engage in collaborative programming and activities relative to medical resident and student rotations, health professions student rotations, interdisciplinary team education, continuing education for providers, learning resource workshops and information dissemination activities to K-12 students. These Centers maintain collaborative relationships and affiliation agreements with preceptors, community-based training sites, educational institutions, academic disciplines, organizations, rural community hospitals, rural health clinics, and other appropriate entities.
