ARHA WORKS WITH
STATE OFFICE OF RURAL HEALTH IN PUBLICIZING STATUS OF RURAL HEALTH IN
The Alabama Rural Health Association has joined with the Office of Primary Care and Rural Health in the Alabama Department of Public Health to produce a battery of publications presenting detailed information on 67 different rural health indicators comparing Alabama's rural counties to other counties and areas.
These publications are specifically designed to assist members of the Alabama Rural Action Commission's (ARAC) Health Sub-Committees in identifying and publicizing local issues. ARAC was established by Governor Bob Riley to promote development and opportunity in Alabama's rural counties. ARAC is patterned after the Governor's Black Belt Action Commission which has been successful in assisting and promoting the expansion of opportunity in the 12 Black Belt Region counties.
Information is presented for most of the 67 health-related factors for the nation, Alabama, rural counties, urban counties, highly rural counties, moderately rural counties, rural North Alabama counties, rural South Alabama counties, ARAC regions, Black Belt region, Alabama's Appalachian region, Alabama's Delta region, and all 67 counties. These publications can be seen and downloaded by visiting the ARHA Web site at http://www.arhaonline.org/rururbcomp.htm or by selecting "Reports" at the Office of Rural Health Web site, http://adph.org/ruralhealth/

RURAL HEALTH OUTREACH GRANT PROGRAM TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CALL - TUESDAY, AUGUST 26 AT 1:00 CENTRAL TIME
This grant program has been of great value to rural Alabama. For additional information visit http://ruralhealth.hrsa.gov/funding/outreach.htm
The Office of Rural Health Policy's Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant Program encourages the development of new and innovative health care delivery systems in rural communities that lack essential health care services. The emphasis of this grant program is on service delivery through collaboration, requiring the grantee to form a consortium with at least two additional partners. The community being served must be involved in the development and ongoing operations of the program, to appropriately address the needs of the population. Programs funded have varied greatly and have brought care that would not otherwise have been available to at least two million rural citizens across the country. Through consortia of local providers and others, rural communities have managed to provide services such as hospice, dental care for children, and prenatal care in many remote areas.
To be eligible, the grant
recipient's organizational headquarters must be a rural public or rural
nonprofit private entity and must be located in a rural county or in a rural
census tract of an urban county. All of the proposed services must be provided
in a rural county or census tract. Exceptions to this are 330(g) Migrant Health
Clinics who exclusively provide services to migrant and seasonal farm workers
in rural areas or a Federally recognized Native American Tribal Government
providing all of the proposed services on Federally-recognized Tribal land.
